“Living alone, social isolation has definitely had its ups and downs. For me, the low point was the day I found out. We wouldn't be going back to school for the remainder of this academic year. I cried for how much it would affect my students, especially my seniors, and I cried for how much I missed them. I was inspired by a facebook group to decorate my windows with hearts, but I wanted to send a message of hope with them, too. I started listening to the playlist I have for when I'm feeling down, and the song "Disaster Hearts" by my favorite band, I Fight Dragons, came up. It's a song about how healing takes time, but that we come out stronger on the other side; I picked two lyrics to put up. I've seen people slow down to read them, which makes me smile every time. Best of all, I get a reminder every time I look outside that social isolation is a collective expression of love; even in isolation, we're coming together as a community, a country, and a species to beat this.”
